3-Minute Theory: She Ran. Then Rebuilt

Some stories take time to tell.

This one took a lifetime.

Esther didn’t just leave a religion. She left a world. A system. A marriage. A belief that she had no voice, and no right to trust herself.

This episode was a survivor’s story. But more than that, it was a rebuilder’s story.

We talked about:

  • Indoctrination as a Jehovah’s Witness

  • The trauma of being controlled, silenced, and abused

  • The cost of breaking free, and the strength it takes to start again

  • Psychedelics, therapy, and learning to be your own safe place

MIND – Think

"It’s not rebellion. It’s remembering who you are."

Esther grew up with answers until she started asking questions.

She wasn’t just told what to believe.
She was told what not to feel:

  • Don’t doubt

  • Don’t desire

  • Don’t question

  • Don’t leave

And when she did leave, the consequences were brutal:
Shunned. Abandoned. Cut off from everything and everyone she knew.

But survival isn’t a betrayal.

It’s proof that your mind was stronger than their programming.

BODY – Do

Try This: The “Body Permission” Practice

After years of fear, control, and shame, Esther learned to come back to her body.

This practice is simple. But for someone raised to disconnect, it’s everything.

  1. Place one hand on your chest, one on your belly

  2. Breathe in and say: “I’m allowed to be here.”

  3. Breathe out and say: “This is my body. It’s mine.”

  4. Repeat as needed, especially after triggers.

Example:

After an argument, before sleep, after a wave of guilt - this is your reset.

You don’t owe anyone your silence.
And you don’t need permission to trust yourself again.

HEART – Feel

Ask yourself:

“Where am I still living by someone else’s rules?”

This was the beating heart of the episode.

Esther gave up everything for love, freedom, peace and ended up on the street with nothing.

And yet… that’s where the rebuilding began.

She spoke about:

  • The pain of exile

  • The loneliness of waking up without a community

  • The shame of being seen as “broken” for choosing freedom

But what she really reminded us was this:

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is choose yourself, even when it costs you everything.

A Piece of Us

Rupert: “I look at the man I am today through the lens of the man I’m becoming. I ask myself where I belong in this world, what I want to achieve, and where I can genuinely be at my best, especially after everything that’s been going on in my life.

And the answer is simple.

I’m done repeating old patterns and falling into the same traps. I’m moving forward, deliberately and committing to becoming the best version of myself every single day.

I know this isn’t just talk. I have the discipline. I have the resilience. And I have the ability to keep going without letting myself or anyone else down. That’s the beauty of it, once you own your choices, you own your future.

I’m facing every decision I’ve made, head-on. No avoidance. No excuses.

Keep going. Keep pushing. It’s the only way forward.”

Konrad: “Last week, on the 1st of January, I had my first cup of coffee in over a year. Life is good. Sometimes it’s great to quit the things you love so you can realise just how much you love them.

So far, this first week of the year has been great — I feel motivated and excited. However, one thing I noticed this morning is that the motivation has started to fade, and that’s exactly why it’s important to catch yourself in these moments.

The way I look at it is this: your old self wants to return to the comfort zone you’re used to. That’s why you feel resistance. But you have to push through it to become your new self.”
